Perfect fit and slightly more storage capacity than original
Identical to the original HP8730w battery which had completely died. slightly different label only. Charged up well, and it's removed the annoying BIOS battery warning on laptop start up. Has about 10% more charge capacity than the original, if the label is to be believed !

Works as well as more expensive intelligent chargers, just smaller initial charge current
I bought this Chinese small 'intelligent' trickle charger for £6, not expecting it to work as described at all. But, it actually does what it says in the advert, it does use the 3 phases of charging strategy, i.e. constant charge, then constant voltage, then monitoring. Alright the initial constant charge is not great, I saw 1.5A, but if your battery is not completely dead then that should be enough. Note my other 'intelligent' chargers are Accumate / Optimate 6/12v ones costing near £50 ! I cannot see any difference in the outcome of these chargers, apart from the much greater initial constant charge current in the Accumate ones. I've interchanged them on car batteries, and the constant voltage looks similar on both, and the battery tops out, on monitoring voltage at practically identical voltages as well. Essentially I'm buying more of them.

7.4v battery charged from 5v USB ? - YES !
Despite my misgivings, after a trawl around the Net I found several sites proving that with a bit of electronic trickery, this could actually be done.
This charger, complete with it's mini LCD display showing the charging amount and action, the display just goes blank when complete, plugs in via a USB A to micro USB lead, to anything giving a 5v USB signal. This means I can use my cigarette adaptor phone charger at the same time as charging the camera batteries in the car.
It also means I can use any of the myriad 3 pin USB chargers knocking around the house. You don't even need to use the USB lead provided, any USB A to Micro USB lead will do.
Does it work, Yes it does, I get full charge according to the camera display, and naturally it also charges up the genuine canon camera battery as well, meaning I can leave the bulkier original charger at home now.
