Doggies is all right but not great.
Boynton has written lots of great kids books I read over and over with my daughter. This one is good, but so far I give it only three of five stars on the Boynton scale.

3 of 3 found this helpful This is a pretty crazy movie, mostly because it was by Disney and it has a history of controversy in terms of the movie being hacked up and a new ending and beginning attached to it one year after initial release. The story is interesting and can be found online. This Anchor Bay DVD has alternate endings and other bonus content, so for the first time one can see what the other possibilities were, in terms of how the movie could have been constructed. Recommended.
