One of the best Tube Screamers out there.....and so cheap!
This is the second one of these I've owned. I bought the first one used (from eBay.) It was absolutely great and I would still be using it now, if I hadn't broken it! No fault of the X-Drive, just my stupidity. Actually, these pedals are bomb proof....just not 'me' proof, as it turns out!
All metal construction, good quality components and a very versatile pedal. It has the classic Tube Screamer setting (ts) as well as a Bright setting and a Warm setting. Not much, if any, difference between the three settings when the drive is set low but turn the drive up and it's like three pedals in one!
I genuinely can't speak highly enough of this pedal. It's about a third the price of an Ibanez Tube Screamer and I would defy anyone to tell the difference! It has the classic JRC4558 chip (same as the Ibanez) but the difference is that the chip is not soldered in but mounted in a compartment underneath, so that it can be changed for one of the other two chips that come with it. So, you have three different Op Amp chips x 3 settings on the pedal. Brilliant! I tend to stick to the 'ts' setting with the JRC4558 chip for that classic mid hump tube screamer sound.
Get one...you won't regret it!

Boss BD-2 Blues Driver Overdrive Pedal
I was looking for an overdrive that would sit, sound wise, somewhere between my JHS Soul Food (basically a Klon Centaur for about a fifteenth of the cost) and my Keeley modded Tube Screamer. Well, the Blues Driver was it. I've been playing guitar for 40 years and I can't believe I haven't tried one of these before!
It has less mid hump than a tube screamer and more bite than the Soul Food. Perfect. It has a considerable range of gain, from just a boost right up to virtually fuzz, at its fullest. This just makes it more versatile! I looked at Keeley modded ones but, quite frankly, the stock pedal is fantastic and the mods don't really give you that much more, for an extra £50 quid.
If you're in the market for an overdrive, I strongly recommend you try a Blues Driver. You'll thank me. There are plenty of great demos on YouTube.

D'addario Flatwound bass strings are the BEST!
I've used Daddario strings for many years. All my six strings and basses have them on. I have never even broken one!
These D'addario Flatwound bass strings are fantastic! Smooth, quiet, hold tune and sound great. I'd never use any other strings!
