Recommended to anyone wanting to get into photography.
It really is superb in my opinion. This camera is every bit as good as a DSLR just without a view finder and a built-in flash.
The camera is highly configurable, just about every aspect can be altered in some way. But for the beginner or novice there is a Auto mode and on-screen help.
Yes it has an old sensor and the image stabilisation isn't perfect but it uses everything to it's limit and I honestly can't complain with the image quality. In some situations it may be even slightly better.
The 14-42mm kit lens is very versatile and I think it shows that Olympus thought about the lens that a lot of users will probably use for the life of the camera. I found it hard to fault, it close focuses, does good wide angle and zooms in pretty well. Okay 42mm top end isn't much but as a walk about lens it's not too shabby.
It'd be nice if the whole bundle was "pocketable" but you'd have to have shell out on a 14mm or 20mm "pancake" lens to do that.
The great thing with the Micro Four-Thirds format is the array of adapters available. I am currently using a M43 to Canon FD lens adapter and a Canon 50mm F/3.5 Macro lens! (the lens is about 35 years old).
This is a wonderful format for beginners and amateurs (or pros who just want to tinker) to learn and take great pictures.

Xbox 360 Core console
This is the first games console I've purchased since I bought my original Xbox 6 years ago. I wouldn't have bothered but my all-time-favorite game is Halo and unfortunately Halo 3 on Xbox 360 only.
The console works well and I've got it hooked up to a 26" LCD HD-Ready TV to take advantage of its 1080i/p output. It's fast and the graphics are great but it's a bit noisy and can take ages to turn off as the fans stay on to presumably cool things down before finally powering down.
I don't know about this "Red Ring Of Death" thing, I hope mine never gets it!
My machine has a 120Gb hard drive strapped on top which is absolutely cavernous unless I start downloading movies, music or the like to it (which I probably never will so). I think the hard drive is an optional extra for the "Core" system, I think it normally takes memory cards but a hard drive is an absolute must really.
I didn't like the controller that came with it and I have replaced it with a new wireless controller with the "Charge and Play" pack, again something else which is essential because apparently the controller eats through AA batteries.
Connectivity to the TV wasn't 100% straight-forward; fortunately on my TV I have the requisite connections but I can imagine others having to fork out for SCART- or the like- adapters (I believe it's supposed to come with some sort of SCART adapter but mine didn't).
The other connections are normal; USB for controllers on the front and on the back for accessories and Ethernet/LAN port for internet connectivity.
All-in-all I am pleased with my purchase and hope that I will get the time to have hours of fun playing Halo on it.
