Good machine, well worth it if at a decent price
1 of 1 found this helpful Dell have already replaced this with the Latitude 10 but as that runs on Windows 8 which is incompatible with a lot of older software, I went for this which has more or less the same apparent specs, runs on Windows 7, was about half the price and covered by Dell's warranty.
The good news is that you can run software as old as Office 2003 at least, and Photoshop 6 which is a major consideration given the prices of the latest versions of these.
I find it pretty easy to use, though it is sometimes a bit sluggish especially when online. As it is a proper computer rather than a pad, business-type software really does need a keyboard. There is 1 USB port but the docking station (extra) gives you 3 more. However the docking station only works when plugged into the mains which is a bit of a nonsense on a machine designed for ultra portability. Haven't tried using a USB hub yet, or a bluetooth keyboard - but those look like being essentials.
It's quite heavy - when compared with an iPad - but then it is a proper computer not a souped-up smartphone.
Battery life appears to be good - comparable with a new laptop.
I like the handwriting input - that really does seem to work even with my appalling handwriting.
I agree with other reviews that say that it wouldn't do as your #1 computer for a length of time, but it's an excellent compromise for someone wanting a machine that's fully compatible with other Windows systems but also needing something a lot more portable than a laptop. You could use it comfortably in a car (parked of course!!!) which is quite difficult to do with ease even with a small laptop.
It crashed when I was fiddling about with it and I saw with some concern that you needed to have a USB keyboard plugged in in order to get at the various startup options. Not good planning there.
If it was quicker when browsing, lighter and a bit smaller I'd give it 5 stars all round but nothing's perfect - yet.

Gentle warning about unlocking
3 of 3 found this helpful I've only scratched the surface (not literally) of this intriguing phone, however I do have a serious warning for any prospective buyer - it is an absolute BUGGER to unlock, especially if you live outside London. Apparently it is possible, though difficult, to code-unlock it but this is fraught with problems - if your phone runs out of battery power it will reset itself and re-lock itself. You have to get it hard-unlocked which involves someone doing something physical to bypass something or other (don't ask me what). I wonder if this affects the warranty - probably.
I spent over a week investigating various offers to get it unlocked, they nearly all involved sending it away and the prices varied between £22 + postage each way to £30 all-in. Basically, if anyone offers to do it for £15 while you wait they're probably only offering a code-unlock and that's no good. If you buy a locked phone expect to have to spend another £30 and be without it for up to a week.
