Good Xmas LP by under appreciated band
Xmas LPs are ten a penny these days. This is a cut above many of them. Fans of Glasgow's Pearlfishers will know what to expect. For those unfamiliar with the band there are better, non-festive, entry points to their catalogue (I would particularly recommend "Up With The Larks" for that) but basically the band capture the lush, orchestrated 60s pop of the likes of Burt Bacharach. - in this case with a winter and festively themed bunch of songs. It's worth noting this LP was subsequently re-released a few years later with some extra tracks however I *think* the extended version only exists as a download. In either version this is a very good Xmas LP, and one not worn out by over-exposure, even if (like most bands who produce Xmas LPs) its never quite as good as the Pearlfishers' non-festive fare.

One of the best live LP's ever
If you like prog-era Genesis then you probably have this already I suspect. If not it's great double live LP recorded in Paris from their 1977 tour (with one track taken from the '76 tour). The post-Gabriel line up tackles both their then recent, and Gabriel-era, material with conviction and whilst I know it's heresy I probably prefer the version of Supper's Ready (which is played in full) on this record than Foxtrot. Many of their better known songs are covered (e.g. Lamb Lies Down..., I Know What I Like, Carpet Crawlers, Firth of Fifth etc). I have seen online debates about the pros and cons of the mastering on this so-called "definitive"edition compared with the original LP, the earlier CD release and the SACD. It sounds fine to me and, as I bought it to complement my original vinyl double LP which still sounds great but is hard to play in the car, I'm very happy with this version.
