For a budget item this does all it needs to do.
If you just want to gauge a bowl wall thickness approximately this will Definately do it. I see no reason for it breaking any time soon.

I love this chainsaw
I was sceptical about the power you'd get on an electric chainsaw I needn't have worried.
I do wood turning and for my lathe I need an 18" bar with an 18" bar you need appropriate power which this delivers in spades.
Everything you touch on the machine is plastic but it's tough plastic, nothing flimsy about it.
The chain tensioning system works well so no messing with screw drivers and spanners anymore.
The chain is a different design from normal to allow the internal sharpening system to sharpen the external face of the teeth. All that is required is a light press of the sharpening trigger fir a couple of seconds and you are good to go. Beware if you are heavy handed then you'll be buying a new chain before you know it.
You will need to plug it into a 16 amp circuit and you will likely need to buy 2.5mm cable and make an extension lead up if you want to use it any distance from a socket. You need the heavier cable to prevent voltage drop and the 16 amp trip as this machine like my slide saw draws a lot of amps at start up.
