Moving and challenging film of the holocaust
1 of 1 found this helpful This is an amazing story of a German Polish boy caught up in the drama of the Second World War. His family proudly German are humiliated on Chrystal Nacht and they move back to Poland only to be arrested by the Germans when Poland was invaded. The young hero manages to escape arrest because of his ayrian looks and the rest of the film is about how he manages to hide his Jewishness, firstly in an SS Regiment who use him as an interpreter and secondly in an SS School were he is sent. Whilst at school he made every effort never to be seen naked and even tried to stretch his foreskin so he could look uncircumcised with diasterous results. There is the love affair with his evil German girlfriend which is not consumated for obvious reasons. Finallly he is caught by the Russians but is saved by his brother who survived the death camps and he immigrates to Palestine. Good film beats me how an uncircumcised German actor managed to look circumcised throoughout the film!
