Klaus Kinski's epic performance in Herzog's masterpiece!
Like Werner Herzog's "Aguirre, Wrath of God", one is immediately stunned by the enormity of the this movie's stage and scenery - effectively the Amazonian jungle!
Stories abound as to fighting between the director and Klaus Kinski, sometimes ending in manic chases up the Amazon in motor boats with loaded revolvers and threats of suicide in an attempt to get the film finished.
The main cast (of Amazonian natives) assist a fanatical opera lover get his steam boat into the heart of the jungle in order to build an opera house.
When they abandon him he tries to navigate the boat himself alone, whilst crackly strains of Caruso play out on a small gramophone.
This edition comes with a plethora of extras plus a 2nd DVD comprising the companion movie "Burden of Dreams" which documents the making of this masterpiece - brilliant!
