Musya
I bought this game because I’d seen a lot of gameplay footage and it looked really interesting. The backgrounds, sprites, and animation are all pretty appealing. The major issues with this game is the game play. The controls take some getting used to, but the combat is straight up disappointing. It doesn’t flow at all. Most 2nd and 3rd tier games don’t feel as good as something made by Capcom or Konami action platformers, but this one leaves a lot to be desired. I really wanted to like this game, but it’s really challenging in all the wrong ways.

1 of 1 found this helpful This game is a fantastic merging of action, puzzles, and rpg elements. After starting the game, I was under the impression there wasn’t a whole lot to it, but as I got further and further in, the complexity and challenge kept increasing, and for the first time in a long time I was totally enthralled in a game that I’d not ever made a truly earnest attempt in mastering before. The games graphics are a sight to behold, the sheer size and detail of the enemy’s and bosses are impressive on a level that only top tier titles from the time. The controls need a little getting used to, but once you are they feel great! Don’t forget, this is from the same people who brought you Streets Of Rage 2, so expect the combat to feel extremely satisfying! of course that means Yuzo Koshiro did the music, and while it may not have the orchestral bombast of Actraiser, or the eastern tinged hard rock of Revenge of Shinobi, it has a character all its own. I find some of its dynamics are a little awkward, but otherwise I absolutely love the creepy and foreboding atmosphere in some of these tracks. This game is overall really big on atmosphere and aesthetics, and I think anyone who owns a genesis will be impressed. The story is simple, but that doesn’t detract from all of the really impressive components that make it so immersive otherwise. All things considered, as someone who almost exclusively plays titles from the 8 and 16 bit era (the last new console I bought was the PlayStation 2, which mostly serves as a DVD player to me) I would say this is worth its asking price and its reputation as a hidden gem totally is lived up to.
