Sit back and relax and enjoy the fright!
1 of 1 found this helpful Warning if you have phobias of snakes, flying or small spaces this is not the film for you.
Snakes on a Plane is a fantastic 21st century clichéd blend of every great action, plane, plague jeopardy of the 1970's b-movie, with a touch of the horror genre thrown in for good measure. I was dubious at first of the simplistic title as I expected to sit through a slab of pure ham & cheesiness, but how wrong I was - a cult film in the making!
This not a high brow film by any means but don't be fooled by the title into thinking this will be a cheap production with tacky FX. This film expertly delivers the concept of 'what if' snakes were let loose on a plane. The special FX are done with such breathtaking realism that it is hard to differentiate between the cgi and the real snakes. The film has great memorable lines on offer which genuinely made me laugh. The cinematography captured my imagination so much so it had me jumping along with the screaming passengers as they try to make their escape amidst the vast varieties of biting, spitting & constricting snakes.
The tempo of the film is fast paced and keeps you glued and entertained. The stereotypical characters are all played with tongue firmly in cheek by the cast, but you will quickly connect and care about their survival or revel in their death by snake! Plenty of shocks and gore but have your expectations set low and you will enjoy the ride.
The UK DVD includes a generous batch of bonus extras. A favourite of mine is the interesting 'Meet the Reptiles' documentary where you are introduced to the beautiful/scary real snakes used in the film and the legendary snake wrangler who has worked on classic films such as Raider's Of the Lost Ark.
Highly recommended for your DVD movie collection.
