Received item quickly , well packaged and as described. As a Barry Smith fan( I could not afford the single issues so I have all the Marvel pocketbook reprints), I appreciate your reviews on story and art. A perfect companion to those books, thanks.

The Eyre Affair (Thursday Next) Value Guaranteed from eBay’s biggest seller!

Awesome imagination
The ideas in this are - or were then it was written - very fresh and clever. The story unfolds across not just this book but its sequels too, being far too big for a single novel. I read book 2 in the series first and struggled with a few of the ideas, so if you're thinking of getting into Fforde's work I would recommend reading this one first. It's a complete story in itself, but with all kinds of links and hints about the sequel and subsequent adventures for Thursday Next, the heroine. Also, Jasper Fforde is a really nice chap; we met at a book signing and chatted for quite a while, mostly about croquet.
Slap Shot (DVD, 2012)

Funny - but with a real message.
Hilarious sports movie with a serious message about violence. One of the most re-watchable movies I've ever seen. Paul Newman is excellent, but all the supporting cast give it their all. The script is endlessly quotable, and the assorted backing tracks are perfectly placed to enhance the mood of the quieter moments.
Doctor Who - The Power of the Daleks [DVD] [2016]

What went wrong?
Having waited fifty years to see this in any format at all, it was always going to be disappointing. But it's hard to overstate just how disappointing the animation on this is. Compared to the Cosgrove Hall work on some other Doctor Who restorations (Invasion, for instance) this is sub-South Park stuff with characters mincing sideways instead of moving up and down screen and wobbling their heads to display emotion. There are also some embarrassing moments when everything just stops. Animated Doctor Who has to be better than this otherwise there's no point: you might as well stick to the audio versions--or do what they did on "Web of Fear" and use stills and captions. In its original format, Power of the Daleks was one of the great Doctor Whos from the Troughton era; it deserved better than this.
