WHEN 'HAMMER' CAME TO TV
4 of 4 found this helpful Once available as 4 separate video's comprising 13 tales of horror, made for TV, these can now be obtained on 2 DVD's as a box set. Anyone who recalls the series with affection, will want them, and they are also recommended to those who may have missed them.
As to be expected, some come off better than others. The most memorable one's for me, are 'The Silent Scream', which contains one of Peter Cushing's finest performances,'The House that Bled to Death', 'The Two Faces of Evil' 'Witching Time' 'Visitor from the Grave' 'Charlie Boy' and 'Children of the Full Moon', which benefits from having Diana Dors, in the cast. These are the best of the bunch, but others may have their own particular favourites.
In short, well worth having as a reminder of when 'Hammer' were not only going strong at the cinema, but also turning out films, made for TV.

A SUPERB PIANIST ON A SUPERB INSTRUMENT!
Blind from birth, Eddie Thompson was one of the finest jazz pianists that this country ever produced, and this particular recording offers an excellent example of his work. Recorded 'live' in October 1980, this concert has only just become available in CD, and is a valuable contribution to his work. Eddie couldn't have had a better instrument to play on, with this 'Bosendorfer' Grand Piano, and he is abley assisted by Pete Stables (bass) and Pete Taylor (drums), It's a programme of well known jazz standards, and all enthusiasts should seek out a copy of this! Oh, and by the way there is also a second volume of this concert which I have not heard yet!

PURE PROFESSIONALISM
I have had this particular show on video for several years, and have now decided to replace it with the DVD. Sinatra did a series under the title'A Man and His Music' but for me this is the one that stands out head and shoulders above the rest. Not only is he bang on form, but there are guest appearances from Ella Fitzgerald and Antonio Carlos Jobim. Ella performs on her own as well as doing a series of duets with Sinatra, which bring the show to a terrific climax. In between times there are some duets between Sinatra and Jobim. I can't recommend this particular DVD enough!!!
