Good and Bad
Ok...Ive waited a while to give this review because I wanted to use the woodburner before reviewing.
Good stuff first:
Bought this for a van..its great as you can take the lid off the top and throw chunky logs of wood in.
This means less chopping wood and the doors are a decent size to allow for smaller peices to be thrown in too
Gets really hot and keeps the heat well.
You can boil a kettle on the top of it or cook on it if need be.
Comes with flue and grille for inside.
Bad stuff:
Its covered in a TOXIC paint !
As soon as it gets hot it gives off a noxious black flume of toxic smoke...
Beware! Dont light it in a house for first time use..you will be poisoned !
We had to remove the burner from the van and burn loads of wood in it so as to get it really hot and burn off the paint to the point of even putting it on top of a fire pit to make sure all residue paint was burnt off !
There are a lot of gaps...all over the stove.
We have had to buy fire rope to seal the doors and fire cement to seal the gap at the back where the flue goes.
A priority that a carbon monoxide alarm is fitted anywhere this will be used.
The hinges and door handles are flimsy..wont last long. We replaced the door handles and discovered they were made of lead so had to buy complete new door handle assemblies as it will get a lot of use in our van.
The flue is made of tin which is ok but we are replacing with stainless steel as we dont think it will last too long.
Thats it...you pays your money you makes your choice.
Its a really good design and could be a great stove...such a pity that its essentially badly made.
A little bit of thought and attention to detail when making it would have made all the difference between a great and practical stove and a potentially toxic product.
