Saving time and energy with a pressure cooker
1 of 1 found this helpful I have had a 6litre pressure cooker for decades, but as some of the family members moved on, it became far too much to use a big pressure cooker to cook for my wife and myself when it was time for me to do the cooking. So I decided to get something a lot smaller. I always fancied a Futura, but the price of them had scared me off. However, it was the only decent looking small pressure cooker I could find, so I decided to make the plunge and get one.
It can baffle you initially on how to open and close it. Hold the lid at 90 degrees horizontally, and 45 degrees vertically. That's the trick of getting it in and out of the pressure cooker.
Cooking wise, I cannot be more happy. Yellow split peace is used to make dhal by the Indian community, which requires overnight soaking of the peas, and ages of cooking afterwards. The Futura did the whole job in just fifteen minutes once the pressure had built up. I did some mutton curry. Five minutes to build up the pressure, and 25 minutes of cooking, and it was cooked to perfection. I added just half a teacup of water to the meat, which was more than enough to build up the pressure, and keep the flavours. Too much water will ruin the flavour of the meat for some reason.
Releasing the pressure afterwards can be a messy affair with the Futura. The small spout easily starts to let out juices from the food inside the cooker together with the steam. Leave the cooker to get cold for five minutes and the mess is less likely to occur when you let the steam out. Follow the cleaning instruction for the pressure vents, otherwise they can get clogged up, especially if you don't clean it directly after use. It is easily cleaned in my dishwasher. But take the rubber off if you are going to clean it in a dishwasher. I have had rubber seals for other items go faulty very quickly in the dishwasher, so I learnt from that.

Bugatti Vera kettle for the stylish and modern kitched
I already own the toaster and have been thinking of getting the kettle as well for quite some time. But the on-line reviews over the years scared me off from buying it. The main reason for that was the electronics that controlled the kettle. Many complained that once the electronics started playing up, the kettle was impossible to operate. So I settled for something else.
The arrival of the new Vera without the electronic control was welcomed by me as being a very good idea. The back to basic simple ON/OFF switch would be far more reliable. So I bought one to try, and I must say that I am very pleased with its looks and performance. Pouring is so much saver than on most other kettles, and metal feel of the kettle is far more reassuring. I have had numerous plastic kettles fail on me due to fatigue of their plastic casing through heat, and the subsequent pool of water on my work top. The metal construction of the Bugatti assures a far greater reliability against leaking water.
The only real issue I have with the kettle is that it is far more expensive than some of the more feature laden competitors. A price around 30% lower would have been a great selling point.

A laptop cooler with great features and performance.
I have used numerous laptop coolers over the years, and still own a number of them. But the Tecknet cooler caught my attention. with its automatic cooling option and fan speed adjustment. Having used the cooler now for about a month I have to say that it is the best laptop cooler I have ever come across. I own a games laptop that I use for business and graphics processing. Once it is doing heavy tasks it will quickly spin up its dual fans and fill the whole office with a wall of noise. My other coolers are only slightly less noisy than my laptop. The Tecknet is far quieter, and its auto temperature sensing helps to prevent the cooler operating at full speed continuously. But not only that, my laptop fans hardly ever jump into their noisy mode anymore. The Tecknet fans give enough cooling power to keep everything cool. That means that I can stay by my laptop whilst speaking over the phone.
