good value - average performance
2 of 2 found this helpful The Toshiba BDX2000 Blu-Ray player is an attractive looking, average performing unit. The manually operated front covering matches up nicely with my 40" Toshiba LCD TV. In actual operation though you can tell that this is a badge engineered product. Toshiba did not support Blu-Ray development initially because they were working on the competing HD format. When Blu-Ray won out they needed to bring something to market right away so they bought existing technology and put their name on it. That is the BDX2000. This doesn't make it bad it just means it isn't up to Toshiba's usual level of innovation. The upside is it can be purchased for very little cash.
In operation the unit has the standard features and some bells and whistles. The only real disappointment I have is that when using the HDMI connection to my TV the boot up time and opening connection time between the player and TV seems excessive. This is my first HD player though so I have no other HD player to compare it to so that may SOP. I have no complaints about operation or picture quality, which is astounding with Blu-Ray discs and quite good as to how it upgrades standard DVDs.
The only caveat I would have about purchasing this unit would be price. MSRP started out over $200 is now around $189 but if you shop hard you can find new ones for just over $100. I would not pay much more than that for a Toshiba player that wasn't made by Toshiba. I imagine that sometime in the near future they will release a Blu-Ray player of their own design and that will be worth MSRP.
Robert B. Parker's Colorblind [A Jesse Stone Novel] [ Coleman, Reed Farrel ] Use

a worthwhile read
when Robert B Parker died I was very sad for a selfish reason. he was my favorite author. Reed Coleman has picked up the Jesse Stone series and done very well with it. the story lines are still compelling and Jesse Stone continues as a flawed but good man. the writing styles are different and Coleman doesn't have Parker's flair for dialogue but who does. really a worthwhile read. the book was exactly as described and in good condition.

offbeat entertainment about food and travel
1 of 2 found this helpful It is really refreshing to see a video that presents motorcyclists in a positive light. This video does that and much more.
The story brings humor and comraderie to a motorcycle trip across the country. The premise is to rediscover America's road food heritage. The host, Alton Brown, states that there are only three rules; no whining, no chain restaurants and no interstate highway travel.
Over the episodes the crew experiences the difficulties of motorcycling a long distance and the vast differences in the quality and types of foods available. The regional tastes they experience vary greatly as do the places serving them. The bits of Americana on two lane asphalt are so far superior to what is presented at every freeway exit that it is hard to understand why anyone would travel on the interstate by choice.
Having traveled across a large part of the country on US Highway 2 by motorcycle myself I can agree with what is presented. The opportunity to rediscover America's road food experience and show that motorcyclists are just like other Americans must have been very satisfying.
The players are quirky, the episodes are very free form and the story just flows along like a good road trip should. I would have loved to have been part of this.
