Disregard the poor quality sound from the original poor quality Paramount recordings, these are some of the greatest blues recordings ever made by the first male bluesmen to become a star-- and just one guy and one guitar on most of these sessions. Beautiful jazz album of jazz players at the top of their game
This is a brilliant group performing mostly Kenny Wheeler compositions. Bill Frisell offers his wonderfully atmospheric guitar, and Lee Konitz is at his very best. Wheeler was a genius who never got his full share of fame-- instead he was a musician's musician and revered for albums like Gnu High that were major statement is the '70's and 80's when they first came out. Jack deJohnette
and Dave Holland lay down a fantastic rhythm bass for Wheeler's flugelhorn to soar over. This is one unforgettable album of great beauty and compositional strength.
