The Living World of History is Alive and Well
I was around 10 years old when I first saw this book. It was one I constantly borrowed from my local library to help with my school studies as a teenager. It is an excellent, well-illustrated journey through history, from early man to the (then) present day (early 1970s), covering a wide range of civilisations, Individuals and key battles and turning-points. Even 50 years on, it is still Ideal for dipping in and out of, whetting appetites to learn in more depth if desired. Personally, it is wonderful to be reunited with it.

Air Warfare - a quality title that withstands the test of time.
A fascinating and comprehensive account of air warfare from shortly after the birth of the aeroplane up to the 1970s. The book traces the evolution of military aircraft and also tracks the development of tactics and weaponry though all the major wars of the 20th century, Full of detail, and beautifully enhanced with stunning photographs, maps and excellent illustrations of hundreds of aircraft with authentic squadron regalia and national insignia. I used this book as a source of reference for a history project when I was at secondary school in the 1970s - it was invaluable. It's wonderful to be reunited with a copy almost 50 years later; even though air warfare has contiued to evolve since it was printed, the history cannot change, meaning the book is every bit as informative and enthralling now as it was back then. If you enjoy military history then this is a title that has to be in your library.

The Living World of Science is alive an well, 50+ years on
I owned this book as a child/teenager in the 1970s. It was invaluable and helped with my studies and many a project. It's lovely to be reunited with a copy after all these years and has brought back many memories of late night studies and the pleasure of learning. The book is presented in digistible two- and three-page topics, each one comprehensively written and beautifuly illustrated. The style of presentation makes it an easy book to dip and and out of. It is inevitable that some of the text is out of date as science progresses in leaps and bounds, but it is still very informative as it records the early days of many fields - flight, space exploration, our solar system, communications.... therefore illustrating how far we have come since the days of publication. Still a terrific book, crammed with knowledge on a wide range of scientific matters.
