APPLE Watch Series 3 - 42 mm Space Grey & Black (Sports Band)
10 Jan, 2018
Excellent accessory for iPhone users; great features and some nice surprises
There's no getting around the fact that this is a pricey watch if you pay full price, but I got a great deal on eBay. I'm very happy with it so far. As a watch, it obviously does the basics without any fuss, including alarms (easy to set with Siri), timers, stopwatch etc. There are some nice watch-faces which show the position of the sun in the sky, and so on. The standard 'smartwatch' features like weather, calendar, reminders work really well. The general integration with an iPhone is superb. Notifications are sent to my watch instead of the phone, which means I don't have to look at my phone very often at all. I answer calls on the watch, and it works great (I don't have the cellular version, so need to be on WiFi or connected to iPhone for this to work, but I've never found myself wishing I had cellular connectivity because WiFi and my iPhone are everywhere). Quickly replying to texts and messages is easy, as is checking emails to see if anything important is in the inbox. Siri on my wrist is great for quickly looking things up. There are some nifty little apps available like a translator, tip calculator, train times, task manager and password look-up. I use an app called AnyList which works with the Amazon Echo, so when I ask Alexa to add something to my shopping list it automatically appears on my watch. Paying at the supermarket with Apple Pay is also convenient - it works in Tesco and Asda, despite not being advertised. When I'm playing music on my phone, it automatically loads a remote control app which I can use to pause the music. The fitness features are also excellent, and seem pretty smart as they adjust targets based on performance. It definitely incentivises me to keep moving and exercising, and even prompts me to meditate a few times a day with some breathing exercises. If you sit too long, it prompts you to stand up (you can turn this off, if you like to sit around on your bottom and don't want to be nagged about it once an hour). The heart rate monitor seems to work well, as does the GPS for maps and directions. It even has a little flashlight feature which is surprisingly useful when you're unlocking a door in the dark. I have no complaints about this at all. As long as you have the right expectations - this is an accessory for your iPhone, not a replacement for an iPhone or other device - then I think you'll love it. Especially if you find a good deal on eBay which makes the price more reasonable!
