A testament to a great talent in a single box.
1 of 1 found this helpful I hate doing product reviews and I am not very good at them but this time I felt I wanted to. A box set is usually personal to a living artist and therefore rather partisan. Sadly, because of Amy's untimely death, this is not. The up side is that it does represent the best of Amy's limited output. The first three albums (Frank, Back to Black and Hidden Treasures) are included with Live in London and Remixes as two posthumous albums. Live at the BBC is not here, presumably because it was released as its own box set of Cd and DVDs. So, that's the content now to the music. If you are in to Acid Jazz or Neo Soul then this is for you. If you are a committed fan already - it's a nice reprise. If not, it's an eye opener to the amazing talent this woman had. The language is at times crude and then lyrical in the most beautiful way. The voice is strident and then somehow vulnerable (as, of course, she was), and the music is a reflection of this. It is all here in a well presented box with facsimile cardboard covers for the discs individually. What more can one say? If you are a devotee, you will want it for your collection; if you have never listened seriously to Amy Winehouse, this is almost a definitive collection of her work at a very reasonable price. Try it.

A good introduction to this remarkable woman.
1 of 1 found this helpful This is an affectionate biography that is based, mainly, on the friendship of the author and Maria Callas, written in retrospect some years after Callas's death. It isn't the warts-and-all expose and catalogue of work that, say, "Maria Callas, Sacred Monster" is, but a fond reminiscence, as it were. The author's feelings of loss and, at the end, of outrage at the way Callas was treated come across nicely. If the reader is looking for an introduction to this remarkable woman that reads well and is engaging, this is a good volume to consider.

A detailed and engaging "myth busting" history of the man and the Russia of his times.
A very detailed appraisal of Gregorii Rasputin placed within the history of the Imperial Russia of his time.The sheer amount of information can be daunting but the writer remains unbiased and interesting in his writing style, thus keeping the reader engaged. This is a serious historical study, rather than a mere biography, and debunks many of the myths and misapprehensions that have surrounded the man and have been, in some past biographies, presented as fact. It is just as much a biography of the Tsar and Tsarina as it is of Rasputin, and of the other players in the drama that was the end pre-revolutionary Russia.
