Alan Bates is brilliant in The Shout
Only Alan Bates could play this part and make it believable. The glint in his eye says it all! This is a film fit to be cult viewing. A young John Hurt typified the era as an actor who wasn't afraid to be portrayed as wimpish and clumsy. No ego trips here as there are now - just pure acting! On the surface this is a film about control, dominance, sex and mental illness, but there's so much more if you choose to look deeper.
