The Men Who Would be Kings Colonial Wargaming Rules 9781472815002
    29 Sep, 2016
    Daniel Mersey Does It Again
The Men Who Would Be Kings is the latest offering from the Osprey Wargames series. It allows the Wargamer to adventure in the Colonial wargaming period. As with his other rules, Dan sits his rules firmly in the historical period, but allows a Hollywood style of game play that places the quality of the leaders (diced for randomly each game) at the centre of the rules. It might not be every die hard historical gamer's ideal, but I think it's brilliant. I'very wanted to game the period for at least two decades, but have been prohibited by either the table size or the sheer volume of miniatures needed. Here, Dan Mersey offers a game on a 6×4 surface, with between 36 and 96 figures a side. He also offers Skirmish Kings in the book which allows play with half strength units. Add to that the 'Playing with Mr. Babbage' section that allows for solo or same side play. I'mean already planning to quell the Madhist uprising, hold back the Zulu, watch Custer get minced by Plains Indians, go all Beau Geste with the French Foreign Legion, and step into Darkest Africa. And that'she only beginning to scratch the surface of these awesome rules! Go get a copy while stocks last! Seriously. Go!
