I am a retired teacher and engineer and love fixing stuff. I have a modest OO gauge layout that is a work in progress and I buy and restore locomotives replacing worn parts where necessary, keeping some loco s that I like and selling on others.

Modela MDX40
These are great desktop machines that can cut a range of materials. Pretty much any CAD software can be used to create 2D drawings and by using different coloured lines different depths of cut can be made. The machine takes 6mm shaft tools but supplied collets allow for different sizes tools. Copper clad printed circuit boards can be engraved with a v cutter then drilled with a 1mm drill. For 3D machining, a more than adequate 200mm x 150mm x 60mm envelope allows .stl files to be machined using the supplied software in a range of materials although the fine cut can take a few hours. Altogether a great little machine that can be put to great use.
Hornby Class 37 (Type 3) Co-Co Diesel Locomotive Ringfield 37130 BR Blue

Hornby Class 37
One of the most iconic diesel locomotives in the Hornby range. Having produced probably 100,000's models with varying running numbers and liveries, this is arguably one of the most popular locomotives to own. The original Triang ones were problematic with improvements being to have pickups on the dummy bogie. Many excellent examples can still be found. The later Hornby variation utlilised a Ringfield motor drive which can suffer from worn plastic gears on higher mileage models but spares are readily available to be able to keep even the older models running sweetly for years. Rubber traction tyres on the driving axles help to enable this loco pulling heavy loads on your layout.
