War and Peace (Penguin Classics) By L.N. Tolstoy, R. Edmonds

Essential Russian novel
Doorstop-sized paperback, and if you are at all interested in Russian literature, you ought to plough through this complex tale of the Napoleonic wars as seen from the Russian side. There are dreadful, decadent aristocrats, generals of doubtful competence, the well-meaning hero Pierre, slave-like serfs, and Tolstoy's mercilessly portrayed juvenile lead Natasha, possessing no attribute except fluttering prettiness. A prototype Disney princess?

Enjoyable time-travel adventure
An adventure romp. Billy Connolly sacrifices his dignity to convincingly play a half-wit professor, and it is fun to count how often the other characters marooned in 14th Century France say "Let's go", "Are you all right" and "Be careful". Great battle scenes and a clever plot idea based on Michael Crichton's book.

Solves the connection problem
Worked for me to connect a mac mini, which only has HDMI output, to an older VGA display. The power connection is vital, and simply plugs into a USB port on the mac. Nothing to install, you just plug it in to your computer and display.
