A Monster Calls: Illustrated Paperback By Patrick Ness, Siobhan Dowd, Jim Kay

A moving and powerful story
This is a moving and powerful story, beautifully illustrated with dark and emotional images that truly reflect the theme. This used copy of A Monster Calls was very good value.

A very funny, well observed read.
A very funny read with a great protagonist and cast of characters. Thoughtful insight into life on the breadline in the 1990s. Very well observed characters and detail, and hilarious insight into life as a teenage girl. Great music memories of the 1990s too.

A beautifully illustrated book, and a sensitive and imaginative story
This is a beautifully illustrated book. The images draw you into the story, which is moving and quite dark. Mental illness isn’t an easy subject to tackle in a children’s book, but the authors handle it with sensitivity, imagination, and hope. I loved the dramatic settling of Shetland.
