Comprehensive and thorough
I bought this book to get not only a better working knowledge about ASD, but also to communicate more effectively with medical professionals and others about it.
I have another book by Dr. Prizant “Uniquely Human” and find his summaries and explanations to be helpful and moderated by good science and heart-felt experience.
This book is part of a 5 volume series on language and intervention.
It’s a thorough and well written and I feel makes a good effort to challenge and help move the common sense attitudes towards ASD. It gives good methods that equips the reader with a working knowledge so that they can be confident in what course of action makes the most sense. The book advocates for parents and individuals to make their own ways of doing things but wants you to know the science and success stories observed in clinical, research or real life settings. Dr Prizant believes you learn the most from the families and people with ASD not from textbooks and designations. It comes through beautifully without judgement and you can tell the learning has come from many good places.
