A Study Bible that anyone will love and appreciate and get value from
1 of 1 found this helpful As a Methodist, I perhaps appreciate this Bible more than other might. But it is a Bible for everyone really. The comments and commentary provided is accepted by mainline churches and moderate Christians and are unbiased.
As for the version of the Bible, I have the NRSV and this is my favorite version. It is the one used by scholars and academics for the most part and has fewer, if any, errors in translation. And, it explains the translations so, if you want, you can do further study.
I appreciate the soft imitation leather. Unlike bonded leather, it does not stand up after you shut it. I have a very comfortable feel and is a joy to read. My copy does not have gold edges, which I would prefer. But that's really pretty minor.
I highly recommend this bible to all Methodists and to any mainline or moderate Christian who wants to understand the Bible.

An excellent help to the serious Bible student or scholar
I always can trust the scholars behind the Oxford publications and this book is no exception. You will find them leaning left for the most part. Left in the religious meaning. Since most similar books are fundamental or conservative, I depend on Oxford to provide me with material I can deal with.
The only issue I have with this book is the type is a bit small for my old and tired eyes. I would prefer a larger type.
The entries are very helpful and complete and the illustrations a big help. I use it every time I study the bible and my other material. I highly recommend it.

A wonderful Reference on the Beliefs of the Catholic Church and a must-have
You don't need the newer version because there is only one change. Pope Francis' position on capital punishment has changed in the catechism. But, you can print that out online free if you want it. If you have any question at all as to what the Catholic Church believes, their position, it's easy to look up in this book. And, the type is a good size for any age eyes.
I would recommend this version above any other available at this time. And it's written in a way anyone can quickly understand it.
