Odd results, filter doesn't work
1 of 1 found this helpful I do not recommend this item. (Although I do recommend the seller)
I foolishly bought it to try and "improve" what was already a very fine picture on my Panasonic Plasma that I obtained myself using the Cinema mode as a template. There were however a few moments on certain blu-ray discs on my settings where the colour looked incorrect (eg murky skin-tones, inappropriate olive tints at times) and I felt a calibration would remedy this. It did not.
To begin with, you need to spend a significant amount of time figuring out what exactly to do and the results are strange to say the least (Sharpness = 79??). Worst of all, the blue filter specs that come with the disc do not work at all. What you should see are no bars on the left-hand side of the colour test (i.e. all black) yet no matter what you do, black bars are always prevalent. This means that the colour and tint will always be wrong. Spears & Munsil claim that it is your display that doesn't work with their product but a Panasonic Plasma is a mainstream product; it strikes me as odd that it would not work with it.
If you must go down the calibration route, I recommend getting a professional to do it. Most of us though should be able to get an outstanding picture without one. With this product, the end results seem incorrect and that's before considering the fiasco of a filter that doesn't work with mainstream displays.
Save your money and get a Criterion blu instead

Great music, great sound, unstable attitude
This is a review of the original first UK vinyl pressing.
I bought this LP originally when it came out in 1990 and in light of the poor quality CD reissues (let alone mp3) it was nice to get hold of an original copy again. It certainly sounds as exciting and innovative today as it did then.
Sound quality-wise, this was always a raw thumping record with good dynamic range and interesting Bomb Squad-produced aural images. It sounds great on a good quality deck. However, both back then and now, the record leaves me ambivalent.
On the one hand it accurately captures the rage of young black men in inner city America. Yet on the other, it suffers from the same problem with the so much of this stuff, namely that the rappers want freedom for the black man, but not the black woman or others in similarly oppressed situations. It's one of the reasons I stopped listening to this music; no matter how great the music was, the stance required a helluva lot of self-examination. And none has ever been forthcoming
Listen to it for great music and an expression of tortured black America. But expect to be repelled by the many reactionary sentiments expressed.

Great music, great audio, terrible pressing
The 3 stars is not for the music which we all know to be timeless nor is it for the audio which is way clearer and less murky than my Monarch original.
The problem with this LP and seemingly everything coming out of RTI these days is that there is a section of the vinyl that is covered in scratches, and I mean deep scratches that look someone carved them out with a nail. This is the 3rd LP this year that I've bought that were pressed at RTI and that have had this issue; no other pressing plant exhibits this.
The disc is playable but with a loud, intrusive tick during the scratched section. The poor quality coming out of one of America's seemingly most prestigious pressing plants is a source of annoyance and disappointment to me; I wouldn't want anyone else to suffer the same fate.
Because of the great audio I tentatively recommend this LP but ONLY if purchased from someone with a no-quibble return policy.
