Subtle Horror Masterpiece
1 of 1 found this helpful I read the Historian five years ago, then read it again for my wife who couldn't read very well, and then again, and now again! This is one of my favorite books ever. It is a travelogue, a historical novel, and a subtle horror vampire novel. It is invigorating to read a book that stands on its own, doesn't have numerous sequels, and is just plain creepy. Following the main characters on their quest to find a missing friend and to destroy evil, was more real then many horror novels that get very elaborate and in depth. This novel is well written with great characters, incredible locations, and intriguing history of the real Drakula and his homeland, if not his atrocities. One of the best!!

Great sequel to one of most original vampire books.
When I heard recently that a follow up to the great vampire novel "The Society of S" was out, I was leary. Some book stand on there own and I thought this one would be like that. Now I realize sometimes a continuation is wonderful and The Year of Disappearances" is even better than I could have imagined. Once again its a subtle vampire novel without gore and melodrama. Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the twilight series. But this book, as was the previous, brings it's main character "half-breed" vampire a wonderful quiet intelligence and beauty that seems like a real person as are all the characters. I highly recommend it to anyone that wants to read an orginal book about vampires and great charcaters.

Not top notch but atmospheirc scary movie to be enjoyed!
Not top notch acting job but very atmospheric horror movie. The locations are great (Carlsbad Caverns area) and Bernie Casey as the head Gargoyle is top notch. Overall I alway really loved this eeire movie. Grayson Hall, who played in the original Dark Shadows Soap was great as well. Jennifer Salt as the daughter of Cornel Wildes character is beautiful.
