Best book on Surgery in years
This is one of the most compelling and gripping books about 19th century medicine and surgery I have read. It’s great as an introduction to medicine with gripping and fascinating tales of real people and their illnesses. It flows well and reads like a novel. Highly recommend!

A long eye opening read.
I read this as part of a book club and really enjoyed it. It helped me understand WWII better and the highs and lows of human nature. A truly inspiring read.

Excellent and exciting
A wonderful book and even more poignant during lockdown as the main character comes to terms with a world wide pandemic. A book that talks about human feelings as relevant today as when it was written.
