Length and looks or functionality?
On receipt, whilst recognising the stylish looks of the implement, I was surprised by its length – some 50 mm longer than the Prestige spatula finally being replaced after some 20 years of service. The latter had a metal shaft and thus, with the more modest length, the stiffness to separate sautéed food from a not-so-non-stick frying pan with ease.
The new article looks good, but - being longer and of nylon - flexes to the point that it is difficult to feel in control and a sudden release of food from the pan surface can propel food out of the pan. Alternatively, to squeeze water out of spinach whilst in a pan requires gripping of the blade directly.
Perhaps the good looks get the sales, but ultimately functionality is king. Cannot see the new item being around in 20 years time ….. although it looks good.
