Superb lantern.
1 of 1 found this helpful The best hurricane lamps on the market now IMHO. For over 100 years manufactured in Germany using the same unchanged design. Will last a lifetime. Made of galvanised steel and powder coated in various colours or just galvanised. One 340ml tank will burn ~20hrs. They use a cold blast technology unlike a cheap copies. In a cold blast lantern, fresh air circulates between the inside and the outside of the chimney and is warmed up inside the pipe system - the side pipes which are looking like a handles. Fresh air flows through the side pipes to the burner and supplies the flame with oxygen needed for combustion and makes the flame much brighter compared to other construction types and provides an even and warm light. Simple, robust and reliable with spares available. Worth every penny.
Don't try to save few quid on cheap copies. They are falling apart as made of crap and a lot of them will leak - this makes them dangerous. Buy cheap - buy twice.
I have three Feuerhands and use them in the garden and at home. It's always good to get the clean fuel ( paraffin in UK ) so there is no smoke and no soot but there always will be a little smell regardless of how good the fuel. I tried some special interior dedicated oils which are a bit expensive like ~£6.50 per litre ( in 2021 ) and compared them to a premium grade paraffin in 4 litre tank for ~£6.50/4 litre and found no difference, especially in smell if used indoors - so four times cheaper. Four litres gives over 11 full tanks x20 hrs ~ 220hrs compared to less than 3 tanks on 1 litre which is ~58hrs. For the same price, same fuel quality and same comfort.
In emergency they will go on diesel, olive oil, barbecue lighting liquid but rather outdoors on such fuels.
Some people recommend to cut the wick in an upside down ''V''. From my experience it's better to leave it flat, but always try to have a nice clean cut. This will keep the flame still.
Get at least one. ;)
