If you're studying Japanese and you want to break out of the "Kore wa pen desu" rut, this book is one you want to have in your arsenal. Collocations are the word patterns you will find most frequently in a language, and they're what make your dialogue sound natural. This book is a collection of literally thousands of collocations, from eating and sports to travel and traffic. A through perusal of this book will not only make your speech fluent and impress the Japanese around you, it will also expand your vocabulary by leaps and bounds. Buy the book and go spend the day discussing more than writing tools.

A must-have for tackling the bugbear of Perspective.
As a collector of the "How to Draw Manga" series, this book has eluded me for years. The scarcity plus the high price demanded by most booksellers kept it out of reach. I've finally managed to land one at a relatively reasonable price, and now that I've looked through it I can see why it's in such great demand.
There are many books out there on Perspective. Much of what this one has to offer is similar. The difference is that a lot of time is spent showing the reader how people are placed in a setting once the point of view is established. A classroom full of students, a girl sitting on steps, a man seated on a bench, all of them fitting perfectly into their surroundings. Other bonuses are people (mostly schoolgirls) opening and using lockers and closets. Characters are also shown interacting with doors and even the fine details, such as the way a hand grasps a doorknob, are covered. And let's face it, these are simple elements but when they're done wrong you can feel in your gut that the image just isn't right somehow.
This book is solid and a good addition to a would-be Manga artist's library. I should have gotten my hands on it long ago when I could have pre-ordered it at the cover price.
