Decent, but a fascinating subject crying out for a more lively account

This is a good book about the 2001 exhibition, helping raise awareness of surviving medieval wooden sculptures, art which still crackles with some strange energy. Most such items were destroyed in the Reformation. However the subject really calls out for a book that brings life to the medieval period rather than this slightly dry scholarly account.
