Good Product, Poor Instructions
The TS524EL is a surprisingly well made and solid product at this price.
I found the instructions to be poor, leaving a lot of uncertainty as I assembled the product. As an example, although there were different sized bolts, it did not specify which to use where. It also called them screws in some instructions and "bolts" in others, although they were all bolts. Another example is that although it tells you to remove the "red plate" around the blade, it never tells you to replace it, which is essential. After a couple of mis-directions, I got the saw assembled and working, and realised I had not set the Rivening plate correctly, again a clearer instruction with graphic would have helped
For an experienced handyman I am sure this is no trouble, but I gather this item is aimed at the hobbyist/beginner.
The saw itself is excellent. The extending plates to both sides and the rear are solid and fix very well. The fence guide is surprisingly firm (surprising because it is fixed only at one end), although whether this will be the case after some use remains to be seen. The scale on the front is also quite accurate, although I would not rely on it for critical cutting measurements. The angle fence is also very good. The cutting itself is clean and crisp - very smooth surfaces.
I have only two cons.
1) The saw did not line completely vertically at 0 degrees tilt, and I had to apply what seemed like unwarranted force to push it slightly past the 0 degree mark (into "negative" degrees) to get a vertical blade alignment.
2) I think Lumberjack should include a dust bag, even if only a simple one. I cannot envisage using the domestic vacuum cleaner for this task, and neither should I have to buy one for the purpose. I had to rig my leaf blower bag to achieve this, seems to do the trick.
