Really sweet, really funny book for everybody to read.
This book is very funny. The story is about a bigger than life Grandma in rural Illinois during early 1930's and told by her grandson who spent his summers there with his little sister. It's also a wonderful introduction for young readers to the life of rural America during the depression. I enjoyed this book as an adult and did not hesitate to pass it to my 9 year old as well. I actually found the second book, "A Year Down Yonder" first but stopped reading during mid-book to get the first book ("A Long Way from Chicago"). I was enjoying it so much I wanted to read them in order. They are both wonderful and the second book is made richer by reading the first book.
