A wonderful teaching tool

Being able to refer to different stagings of particular scenes or of readings of specific lines brings the drama of the text alive as theater for my students. FYI, however, the copy I received was not the hardcover promised, but a paperbound volume.

Magnificent blast from the past

I'd heard bits and pieces of the other three RIng operas from performances from the 1930s, but never Rheingold, so this was a revelation, Schorr, Maison, Nimetz, and Laufkoetter offering superb characterizations. The sound is as good as it gets for historical material. Finally, the booklet includes excellent essays on both the opera itself, the singers chosen for this dream cast, and the mechanics by which the whole was created.
