Very cheap but comes at a price !
So i've had my hotplate for a couple of months & it's being used almost constantly.
When it was first plugged in yes an alarming smell came from it but after a short time this smell was gone. The housing below the actual heating plate does get ridiculously hot & this has a bit of a down side, if anything is spilt on it or over boils it burns on to the white surround & because it's so hot you can't even wipe it off quickly, in a short time this white paint has become very discoloured & has lost it's clean looks, even when cold, it won't clean up.
Like others have mentioned, when switched off after use, the plate takes a long long time to cool down so for that reason this appliance can not be efficient to use unless like mine, it's in constant use.
I found this on eBay for just under £17 so it was pretty cheap & it's being used to keep a large kettle of water just off the boil for tea & coffee, at this, the appliance excels.
I could have bought an urn for a lot more money & had a lot less versatility.

Genuine parts that lack genuine quality or finish.
2 of 2 found this helpful This review is for a listing that is made up in to a kit of parts, the items in the kit are all sold separately by Yamaha or other sellers.
This particular kit comprises of the holder that replaces the stock centre panel on the XMAX handle bars, a 2.1 amp USB socket & a Y loom, the parts are all genuine Yamaha.
The installation is not particularly hard but unless you have done one before, you want to take your time & work methodically, if rushed it would be easy to break some of the plastic clips that hold your XMAX panels together.
The somewhat vague instructions call for the side fairing to be removed but i released all the upper clips between the side panels & reached my hand in to connect the Y loom to the USB socket loom.
All in all the kit works fine but the fit & finish of the genuine Yamaha holder is not good, it is a much lower quality finish than the part it replaces & it doesn't even fit particularly well, you will see a good sized panel gap between the holder & the handle bar cover plastics where there was not one before.
The rubber cover that keeps the USB socket covered & dry is poor fitting & cheap rubber & i suspect it will break where it hinges.
For the best part of £100 this in my opinion is not worth the money, there are many cheaper options available.

It's okay for the money.
I haggled the price of mine down & I'm glad i did !
It's a smart & compact unit as described but as for quiet ? well I wouldn't call it a whisper but it's okay.
Now I noticed that it comes with a 9v transformer & i would have expected it to be a 12v machine, much like 12v camping fridges which use the same technology so i assume the voltage drop is to perhaps make it quieter but if so that comes at a cost to the effectiveness.
Mine collects water but at a much reduced rate than stated, it collects a half litre every 5-6 days yet i still get lots of condensation on my windows.
How long it will last, running 24/7 i shall be interested to see.
