About
My hobby is vintage tech restoration, but after a while I have to sale off my older parts to make room for new things to play with. So you never know what I might be selling.

Awesome! Hack the Planet!
This sound track is a trip to the past. A reminder we need more techno in the morning on the way to work. :)

Telefunken ECC82/12AU7 1957
4 of 4 found this helpful I'm not an expert by any means. But I have listen to Chinese tubes, old American tubes, British Mullard's, and Russian military tubes. But I still don't know how to tell a real Telefunken from a fake other than Googling and Youtube videos. So I took a chance and bought one, and hoped for the best.
But when I plugged this tube in to my headphone amp with my HD6XX's. My ears went to wonderland.
Worth the 80+ dollars I paid for it. (Even if I don't know what I bought because of my own ignorance) I've been using it for a while now and the more I've used it the better it sounds. I guess it had to be broken in. I was using a Mullard but they're not really great for today's music. This Telefunken was crisp and clean in all ranges. High output. How ever like I read it's great for pure reference sound so you'll have to boost the bass on your sound source or used semi or closed back headphones. Which isn't true with my Mullard. But I knew this when buying so I was extremely happy. You can even use this Telefunken for Techno music with out it being muddled.
I read somewhere that these high output Telefunkens were not used for audio back in the day. But for things like tube based computer operations and what not. Which I found out why they're so good for reference sound. (from google research.)
In the end if you're looking for a good tube... I'd trust the person I bought this from. Thanks a lot.

Was skeptical but was wrong! This guy rocks!
Got this amp at work today to go with some AKG K7XX headphones. Works great. Honestly the Chinese tubes are really not that bad. You don't actually need to replace them unless your headphones are over 100 ohms you may need a more powerful pre-amp tube feeding the main tubes.
The unit does get hot. It's normal compared to the other tube amps I've used.
These units are 110v units, even though they ship with a 220/240v plug. If you plug it in to 220/240v it will blow and smoke out! don't do it. I've read the forums and seeeeeen! the pictures! Make sure your box is marked and says specifically 220/240v!
If your going to replace the Pre-Amp tube get a Mullard. The cheap 50$'ish telefunken 6211's are not meant for a normal 12AU7 replacement... don't do it. they are just trying to sell the tubes.
Also don't believe the bull you read let the tubes run without audio with nothing plugged in for several hours for the burn in. I learned this from people in their 60's and 70's. Ether you will change the characteristics of the sound by limiting them or you will burn the pre-amp out in about 10 to 40 hours. These are Chinese tubes people. Just let it run and be patient. I was told by someone I trust 12 hours no sound with a load (meaning headphones plugged in) with volume set to zero.
But hey do what you want it's your 250+ US dollars you worked for! ;)
