The Power of The PSP!
My first experience of the PSP came when I went into a local shop to buy a replacement DS Lite after mine had died. A friend in the shop asked me why I wanted a DS when they were really aimed at the younger market and suggested that I might try a PSP instead. Having had no experience of them, I asked what they could do. It was a silly question and I should have saved time by asking what they couldn't do! In short, these things are awesome. My PSP is linked wirelessly to the internet. I watch movies on it, play music on it, play games on it, listen to internet radio on it - the list is endless. Suffice to say, every every member of the family now has one and just recently we have discovered an incredible game called Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, which we all have a copy of and can join together wirelessly to play the game as a group. We have all developed our own characters and play the game individually, but come together every so often to work as a team to slay fierce but awesome monsters. This really brings us together as a family unit and dinner times are now filled with talk of slaying tactics and ideas. I guess this speaks more highly about the game in some respects, but the underlying truth is that this is only possible thanks to the connectivity of the PSP's. Recently, one of my sons and my wife have updated their PSP's to the new PSP Go, which is clearly the next step in the evolution of the console and no doubt where we will all end up. On the plus side, the PSP Go no longer has a UMD Disc Drive and all media is downloaded to the built in hard drive instead. This means that everything becomes more compact, with no need to take a case full of discs everywhere. It also makes the loading time of games much quicker. On the downside, the screen is slightly smaller on the Go and the controls take some getting used to if you have played the 3000 for some time. That said, no matter which PSP you get, if you haven't had one before and you're prepapred to take the time to get to know what it's capable of, you'll soon be amazed that you managed to live without one for so long. Be aware that they are known for breaking if handled too roughly, but parts are readily available, as are a host of peripheral accessories which allow you to customise and care for your unit. So, get one, look after it and it will reward you with countless hours of entertainment. Can't recommend them highly enough... Sony's finest hour by far.
