Very popular at the time, now largely forgotten, this novel is a gripping account of a troubled soul trying to navigate the new sexual freedoms of the late 1960s, and encountering violence and exploitation.

Patchy ‘60s ‘tell-all’. Of interest mainly to fans.
Patchy ghost-written autobiography of the classic film noir heroine, from a time when such books were being rushed out in the wake of Hedy Lamarr’s money-making shocker, ‘Ecstasy and Me’. Lake’s version is more circumspect until the final third, when, as if prodded by the publisher, she goes into detail about her sex life. The earlier sections, detailing her Hollywood career, are short in detail, but do give an impression of a strong young woman who resisted being commodified and bullied at the expense of her studio career.
