The dark arts v martial arts......a masterpiece of horror
0 of 1 found this helpful All i can say is,what a classic early 80's movie.
I watched this as a kid and have not stopped watching since.
The story is set in china in the early 19th century and is filmed entirely on location in Asia
A hammer horror/shaw brothers movie production that was made due to the high popularity of both genres of horror movies and the mixed martial arts movies back in the eighties.
The story is easy to follow although some what cheesy but this is what makes the film stand out from the rest.
All the characters do well in their roles for such a small budget, and the film locations and fighting sequences are mesmerising for such a new project at the time.
The hilarious walking/bouncing along zombie dead and the ghastly ghoulish looking samauri weilding vampires are a great laugh.
Peter cushing adds his usual mystique and flair as expected from a hammer horror legend, which was good timing as this was the last ever hammer horror production made.
I believe this film gave writer/director ( john Carpenter ) his ideas and inspiration to go on and make the classic 90's movie "Big trouble in little china".
This film is a must see for all fans of both genres of horror or martial arts movies and also anybody who just likes to watch a cheesy fun filled kick ass action horror movie.
Take it for what it is a classic masterpiece of eighties style horror 10/10
