An excellent portable writing machine that does everything else and more.
My 17.3" Toshiba is too ungainly, heavy, does not fit in my backpack, and the battery only last an hour or so. It is way too big for use on planes. This 12" gem solves all those problems. It also has a backlit keyboard that can be turned on and off, a serious plus feature and the original search criteria. Weight is just over 3#, half the 17.3" with an overall nice, pleasing feel. The battery last at least 4 hours with constant HD Netflix streaming, with several background programs running. The Windows 8.1 has been the biggest difficulty since I am not familiar with it at all, but I am slowly learning. I somehow got a password required to turn it on stuck in it, but that is becoming a non-issue and not a bad idea for international travel. The transformer is also light weight, small, and has universal voltage and frequency, so I can use it anywhere. The touch screen is new to me, also, so I am learning and think it will end up a plus. it is quite durable and substantial and works well with wireless Wi-Fi. There is a internet plug-in port. There are 2 USB ports, but I would wish for 3 or more. I use a cooling fan pad with it, but it is not required. I burnt out a graphics component on a motherboard on my last Toshiba because it got too hot, so I am using the cooling pad as a precaution from now on and to good result. It runs very cool to the touch with heavy CPU use. The AMD6 quad core give very pleasing speed and processing. It takes a wireless travel mouse easily and well. The lack of a DVD drive was only slightly inconvenient since I use several external DVD readers and writers among my computers for various reasons. The keyboard has a good feel in touch typing writing, but does require a definite key depression to work, not a problem, and feels better than most laptop keyboards that I have used in the past. The touchpad can be easily turned off, a real plus in writing on moving vehicles. The touch pad is integrated without additional buttons to push, left button, push the left side of the touchpad, etc., different and I am learning to like it. The display is very clear and sharp, but does have high reflectivity. The intensity of screen illumination is easily adjusted. The hard drive is substantial, so there is no real limit for packing it full of movies for traveling or whatever. I cannot detect a sound from it, very quiet. The on switch is on the side, but that is becoming a non-issue. The headphone jack works well with headphones, which I use when I travel, and external speakers, which I use at home. I have loaded two word processing programs into it and both work well. I originally got it as a portable writing machine that does other things and it is a real solution to a long quest. Highly recommended!

Very sharp and works well with dry cutting
These scissors are very sharp, large, well made, and very easy to handle with large handle holes. They can cut string and paper very well. The only problem is cutting wet things like green onions, cilantro, and parsley. The cut pieces do not fall out between the blades easily and have to be combed out (get the tool). It works very well with dry stuff like vanilla bean pods. Easily cleaned. ThomMoore

Great phone that eats batteries
This is a great phone, but it seriously eats batteries. It has a huge screen, but still fits in the shirt pocket. It is light weight and thin without an added case. The picture quality is SUPER. Its large memory really is great. I poured apps into it for days and only used half of the 64 available. I have 38 language dictionaries loaded into the Translate program. The sound quality is good and headphones work great on it. I keep 5x 3200 MaH batteries charged so I can readily swap out a full battery after a few hours constant use. The battery will still discharge during constant use while plugged in. Even on 38% brightness it still heats up in the hand, but is not bad. It is capable of extreme brightness to read on a sunny day. The processor is VERY fast, works extremely well with Wi-Fi, does Wi-Fi calling, and has a very sensitive touch screen. ThomMoore
