GREAT LENS
Superb lens, one of the great values in Canon's line (and I have mostly L glass). Added benefit, with an adapter I can mount this on my Sony A7r and get amazing 10mm full frame shots. Highly recommended.

Lens didn't meet my expectations
32 of 39 found this helpful I had high hopes for this "new technology" compact zoom with an extended zoom range. The images taken can be exceptional, but unfortunately the lens is subject to significant flare, and the images at 300mm are "soft". Shooting outdoors at the US Open in Raleigh (during a practice round) I found about half of the images satisfactory in terms of sharpness, contrast, and overall image quality. But many were ruined by the flare, and turned many of the views into what looked like a hazy, misty day. At mid aperatures the images appeared sharp from center to corner. The lens also has the habit of extending when pointed downward! It is an adequate lens, but not the spectacular one I had hoped for.

Great Value Telephoto
I come from decades of experience, as an amateur, with multiple formats and lots of lens use. I was doubtful this little lightweight (but beautifully constructed) lens would deliver the image quality I wanted, but the price is so reasonable I opted to try it. My copy is superb! Crisp images at all focal lengths, acceptable distortion, with excellent color saturation. It zooms without friction, smooth as butter. For the price and its obvious limitation (only 4.5/6.3) it is an ideal lens to place in your bag or carry mounted on the camera (very lightweight).
