Sounds good, does what it's supposed to, falls short of Alpine expectations
It takes a bit longer to turn on than I would like, especially the screen. That's important because one of the features I liked was the reverse camera input. So if you are backing up when you first start the vehicle, it feels like you are sitting for a long time to wait on the camera. The reality is it's not really that long, it's just longer than I have sat since I started driving. The sound is fine. It does have the nav docking station and that works OK. The docking unit has a usb hookup, but will not update with a download. All of your POIs, addresses, contacts, etc are therefore gone with Alpine's update method. You order a new updated docking unit and then send in your old one. Again, I could live with an old map, but now I have an extra nanny screen that pops up EVERY time you turn on the radio with the nav in addition to the standard don't be distracted nanny screen. To get access to all of the phone sync stuff you have to have the nav on. I also haven't had any luck getting it to sync my contacts from my iphone 4 yet either, but I haven't really pushed the issue yet. All callers pop up private call on the ID with no number listed even though my phone is showing me all data. The architecture of the back of the unit is not very robust. There are 3 different harnesses that plug into this thing plus numerous other plugs for the hands free mic, usb, ipod, propietary add ons etc. Don't be ham fisted on the install, but it could be more sturdy as well. Many of the buttons along the bottom are useless the majority of the time. Therefore you are all the time touching the screen. A bit of forethought would have switched out some of the buttons or utilized the software to make them multiuse so you could minimize the screen taps and fingerprints on the screen.
RVK3500 B&W Companion 5th Wheel RV Gooseneck Hitch Adapter

Quality product leaving my truck bed useful for other things.
I use my truck for more than just towing a 5th wheel. I also have stock and utility trailers that have a gooseneck hitch and occasionally I want to just be able to throw something in the back and haul it. So far as I know B & W is the only option that allows all of that. It works well, it's made well, and does what it is supposed to do. I'm not sure about the price of the companion 5th. I feel it's a bit high compared to market, but looking on the used market it looked like the companion held it's value which tells you about the quality in reputation.

One of the better units available with these features at this price.
Pros: Easy to follow install instructions Fairly robust cable interface at the back of the unit Great sound I like the gas log feature I can keep track of mileage You can easily modify the install to allow "passengers" to use all the features instead of locking them out at speed. Fairly customizeable in factory form. Large aftermarket following if you want more customization. Cons: The included hands free mic is awful. It sounds like I'm in the bottom of a metal drum talking on a tin can and string. The contacts interface is sketchy and requires too much attention. Blue tooth audio is hit and miss. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. The nav auto day/night function is not as good as other units I've used. It really struggles to make up its' mind at times when the mode should be apparent. Some of the software support for the unit is already out of date on Pioneer's website. No windows 7 or 8 interface, the app for this specific radio was taken down and one for a lower end newer radio took its' place. Map updates are pretty expensive. Things neighther good nor bad, but observations: Having the only usb port in the back of the unit is an interesting decision. It allows me to discretely hide the cable unless I need it. On the other hand, if it were cast into the front of the unit or even an additional front usb, it would be cleaner when in use and provide some flexibility with inputs. I still use my radio as a radio quite often believe it or not. With all of the other customization, being able to assign an icon or rename P1-P6 to the name of the station would be a nice touch. Also on the station data broadcast text, there is always a couple of letters in front of it that are native to the software that are distracting and unneccessary. The screen is marvelous. I've never seen one that clear that also repels finger prints like it does. This was a very pleasant surprise for me because I was concerned about the lack of hard buttons along the bottom making my screen an eyesore. Not the case at all. I am including the reliability of the sync with my iphone for the purposes of calling here because there is good and bad about it. It hits every time and fairly quickly, I don't care for the contacts interface or the mic quality mentioned above, but the sound on my end is great and it is far more reliable than any other unit I've used. The phone control software and muting options are great. I just need a better mic. The Nav works fine for what it is. If you are used to another unit, you won't like it untill you get used to it's particular idiosynchracies. There is nothing inherently wrong with the function itself. I mounted the antenna supplied on top of the HVAC vents behind the dash and get a good signal quickly. The reverse camera works quickly on startup, long before the whole unit is ready. So quick jump in and start and take offs are better with this unit than most. It is dissappointing that they took video processing power to put script on the view about reversing the image. It seems to half the frame rate when the unit is far enough along in startup to get that done. As you can tell what problems I have with it are minor and mostly personal preference or just tweaks Pioneer could have easily improved and just didn't. Those are just part of audio people learning what can be done with software. I get compliments on the unit from everyone that gets in the truck.
