Fantastic device
This was my second of these; I dropped the first one and damaged the screen. It was still usable but it became annoying and I worried that it would fail on me during a long trip. The cost of repair was greater than getting a used one on Ebay so I have it to a friend and acquired the current one for 100 bucks. I mostly read books (Kindle), web sites, maps and do email on this but in a pinch you could do word processing, excel, etc. Fires up super fast. Far more handy than my Lenovo Laptop.
Perfect size for travel. I usually forget it has a camera but the photos look really good too.

Needs a redesign.
Good idea but a poor design. Mine only sealed out water for a few days of use. The plastic is very brittle and has deteriorated so that is likely where water leaks to the inside. It is also impossible to open without a knife to wedge it open. I use if for surfing under my wetsuit so there is little water pressure on the seal. I even tried sealing it with silicon grease but still some drop or two get inside and condense. A better design would have a rubber gasket.

Nano: No worthy successor
Why did Apple stop making this model? I love this for running, gym and other sports. It works great on a wrist band. Sure the battery doesn't last all that long but you need to give something up with the small size. More important would be to make it water resistant (I killed one in the shower). Also the touch screen doesn't work well when fingers are moist. My biggest complaint with it is the same one I have with other Apple products: the lack of feedback when updating, etc, which is a fault of the software and not the machine.
I've tried to substitute my iPhone 5 but the Nano is like 10x smaller and lighter.
