Lovely story let down by the pictures
The Goose Girl is one of the last of a long series of 'Well-Loved Tales' published by Lady bird since the 1970s. It is a Hans Christian Anderson story retold by Joan Collins (no, not that one!). As usual, a lovely bedtime read for children of all ages, but rather let down by the illustrations. Early Ladybird tales are beautifully illustrated but these later (1980s) ones are very variable, and the style of Kathie Layfield is a bit basic and does not appeal. Most children probably won't notice.

The Story of Christ's Passion: A Tale for Children
I decided to buy this book since we went to the Passion Play in 2010 and collecct various souvenirs from plays past. I wasn't quite sure what to expect with this book and it was alittle thinner than I had anticipated, but it is still an excellent read, and a wonderful introduction for children to the story of Christ's Passion. The pictures are superb and the translation from the original German is very good. The crucifixion of Christ is a difficult tale to tell young children, but the pictures from this play tell us how it was without being too scary. I thoroughly recommend this book for children aged 8 to 12 especially.

Good value and becoming harder to find
This is one of the later entries in the second series of bible stories by Ladybird. As a result it suffers from somewhat poorer illustrations than its predecessors, this being a result of changed production values, rather than the artist. The stories are clear and concise as one would expect, and still a useful approach to the bible for a child. Superior to ost modern bible retellings for children. I bought it myself simply as a Ladybird collector, whose interest in Ladybird peters out in the early 1980's because of the fall in the quality of illustration and production.
