Taylor 5135 Durable Aluminum Indoor / Outdoor Wall Thermometer
    18 Apr, 2017
Simple, well made, easy to read, reliable, no hassles.
I happily used one of these thermometers for years, but replaced it with a digital, in/out electronic thermometer. That failed, and I got a second digital, which died in less than a year. So now I am back to a reliable mechanical thermometer, with no electronic displays, no batteries, no hassles. The price is very reasonable, about 1/5 the cost of a digital thermometer. . The Taylor thermometer is simple, made of aluminum and a glass tube, with nothing to go wrong. It is 9 inches overall high, and the scale, in Fahrenheit and Celsius are 4 1/2 inches high, easy to read through the window, where it is mounted to display the outdoor temperature. The original one is inside, and I can read both easily, with no possible failures. It mounts flat on a wall or board, and does not include a bracket. There are 2 small holes to mount it with nails of small screws, not included. This thermometer tells me the temperature. I never used the other features on digital models, so I don't miss them. I like this a lot ! ! !

7/8 Inch Flat Cotton Wick 15 Foot Length Wick For Oil Lamps and Lanterns 4.5M
    15 Nov, 2017
    Looks good, works bad
I regret purchasing this wicking, and regret giving positive feedback before putting it into a lamp and lantern. This is not a solid wick like quality wicks are. This is a tubular wick that has been pressed flat. This causes problems. The wick is thinner than the original Dietz wick, and the halves far thinner. 1The thin, doubled wick cuts poorly with even a sharp scissors, so it is difficult to trim the wick for an even flame. This means a flame too low in parts, and so high as to soot on other parts. I suspect it will burn up faster, due to its lesser thickness. 2 The doubled wick feeds poorly or not at all in the lamp burner. The teeth on the adjusting knob shaft engage one side of the double wick, but the other slips, clumps, jambs, and is difficult to adjust. I tried in a quality Dietz lantern, and the wick failed to feed at all, despite being undersized, 7/8 inch instead of a full 1 inch. If you are already stuck with this stuff, I found that if you put white glue over the cut end of the wick and let it dry solid, it can be fed through the bottom of the burner slot, though with difficulty. Then I ran the wick through and an inch past the burner, and cut off the glued portion, and lowered the trimmed wick to the proper position. This was never necessary with an American made wick. Spend a bit more and get a quality wick. This is for emergency lighting and camping, and an emergency is a bad time to have malfunctions, as is the dark of night in the forest.
