IT is getting on in years but nothing come near to it
3 of 3 found this helpful Many years ago a hi fi dealer in town demo the quad 405 amp to me ,at that time it was just a dream ,money was tight and that was that ,some 40s years later and a little bit older and with a few mores pounds to spare i found one on eBay and won it ,i will never part with it ,MAGIC is the word together with the quad 34 preamp and my rega p9 turntable and quad 11L speakers i am one very happy guy ,many younger people have look on in disbelief at the sound this amp will give ,nothing added and nothing taken away .

Great sound and detail CD player
1 of 1 found this helpful It may not be the newest CD player on the scene but i now see why it had such high recommendations in its day ,my old CD player packed up so i was looking for a replacement of good quality but not new , this CD player came up and i won it ,the sound and detail will match many new models today with no problem i played a CD i had in my collection for many years , the sound on this CD player came out so clean and open with details i had not heard on the CD before i can recommend this CD player 100% plus ,and by the way i have been a hi fi nut for some 40 years .

Nice open sound great to live with .
I Have two hi fi systems going for me ,the main one in my front room ,the second in a room upstairs ,its the second unit i have the Quad 12L2 speakers in ,this is built round a Quad 405 Mk two and a Quad 44 pre amp , for me the sound is magic ,a hi fi mag ,. said the speakers are fine with classic type music ,but so so with other type of music ,i find the speakers fine with any type of music you can put into them ,i like classics ,pop ,jazz , easy going type music ,and every time the speakers come up with the goods ,the last point the Quads speakers do not like cheap amps,. to drive them ,so take care when matching with the rest of your hi fi put on good stands away from the wall and good speaker wire and you will fine the end product very rewarding .
