Fascinating, immense range of information and depth of thought!
Amazing book, my second copy. Gives in depth but clear and readable introduction to environmental dangers using both ancient and current examples, and drawing on an incredible range of interests and sources to support this. It is neither bland or scaremongering, and takes a realistic view of the need to balance human needs with environmental awareness, and provides a great insight into environmental Archaeology into the bargain. As well as all this, Diamond retains a wry sense of humour, keeping what could be a rather dry and depressing subject from stopping the reader in their tracks.
